It was no wonder I hadn't heard of this guy before if he was new. No way would a gang like Los Cojones keep someone like this secret for long.

I nodded, and Brig stepped back, releasing the guy’s arms. He stayed still, glaring at me the entire time, almost daring me to shoot him. Part of me wanted to, knew I should take out a threat like this right away. But I also knew Sky was standing right behind me, probably watching everything I did and said. No way would she be forgetting this anytime soon. Did I really

need to add murder to that memory for her?

Still, I couldn’t just let this guy back out on the streets. Nor could I trust the cops to put him away and keep him there.

I motioned toward Brig, and he seemed to know exactly what I meant. He carefully moved around the man, his guard up just in case the idiot tried something. But he stayed put, eyes still focused on the gun in my hand, as Brig moved past me toward Sky.

I didn't look away as I heard him shuffling Sky outside. At the very least, she wouldn't have to see the actual bloodshed. The fight and near kidnapping had been bad enough. I waited, seconds stretching into minutes, until I heard the door at the end of the hall open and close again.

"Well, pretty boy. What're you gonna do now?" The idiot smirked at me.

Clearly, he didn't think I had the balls to do what needed to be done. He stood straight, not a trace of fear in his eyes. "You know I'll be back. That bitch'll be mine, and I'll make sure she's good and used before I bring her back. Boss said he wants her alive, but he didn't say she had to be pristine."

He opened his mouth to speak again, but before he got even a single word out, a gunshot echoed through the hall.

No doubt everyone in the mall would've heard that. They may have somehow missed the scuffle down here, but a gunshot would reverberate around the entire place.

The man crumpled to the ground, howling in pain as he clutched as his blood-soaked knee. Brig and I had done a number on his right knee already, so I'd aimed for the left one.

At such a close range, the bullet didn't stand a chance of missing its target, impacting with his kneecap and fragmenting inside. If he got to a hospital soon enough, he'd live. The wound wasn't life threatening. But he'd be lucky to ever walk again. I'd expected the shot to go clean through, to be a nice neat wound, but apparently not.

I stood over him and smirked. "Guess that'll teach you to load up with hollow points." I kicked him in the side until he looked up at me, glaring again, still howling in pain.
